after waiting for 5 yrs to conceive again, unfortunetely I had a miscarriage at 7 wks. It was really difficult to cope for few wks, but I now came to terms and accepted it. the drs. decided that I should have a natural mc. At last few days of may i had spotted with no cramps and then it started to bleed more every day. on june 3 i had cramping like contractions, lower back pain, chills and passed a little clot. The dr. at the emergency said that i had miscarried after cheking the ultrasound test. i was sent home, the next day i went to see a nurse practitioner and explained what happend, she called a dr. and they decided that i would not have a d/c. a couple of days later i blead a lot, i had to seat in the toilet because it was a lot of blood, fluid and clots coming out. I went back to the dr. and had to go back to emergency, however at the emergency they too said i didn't need to have a d/c, I was sent home with some pills to complete the miscarriage. I felt better for few days, and then again it start all over again, all the bleeding and cramping, went back to dr. did a ultrasound got other pills to clean it out. Now after almost 2 months and 1/2 I'm still bleeding with a little cramps. I wish i had a d/c done from the beginning since it cleans everthing in the procedure. I need to see a different dr. the bleeding is taking too long and I want to go back to normal self, specially because i have 2 health children to take care of. All of this is making me so tired, i just wish the bleeding would stop. Every time a see blood reminds me of the miscarriage.
Did anyone had a such long miscarriage??
Please i need to know if it is normal to be so long.
I wonder if there is something wrong.

Mimi,

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm also sorry you had such bad experience when you were trying to get help during your miscarriage. I know how frustrating that can be, particularly when you are dealing with the emotional trauma of the miscarriage itself. I have had 1 natural miscarriage early on (5 wks) in which I bled like a normal period. I have also had 2 D&Cs, where I only bled for a few days and spotted for a few weeks. Before one of my D&Cs I contemplated having a natural miscarriage. My doc said that if I miscarried naturally, I may bleed heavily for a few days, and then spot for a week or two. She told me that I would have to come in for a check up 2 weeks if I had had a natural miscarriage. So, though I am no doctor, a month seems like a long time to bleed. It sounds like there may be some missed tissue from your miscarriage. You don't necessarily have to have a D&C to have this removed but you would have to have another ultrasound and an in office procedure where they give you some pain meds and go in and try to remove the missed tissue (though some docs might prefer to do a D&C). It sounds like you need to give your doctor a call soon to have this checked out and resolved. If you haven't had a good response from your doctor, get a new one ASAP and explain what is going on. You deserve to feel well, and I know how the physical symptoms after a miscarriage can take their toll on you even in the best of circumstances. Plus, I know how hard it is to chase after kiddos if you are tired all the time (I hope all the bleeding hasn't made you anemic!). Call the doctor soon. I hope you start feeling better. And again, I am so sorry for your loss.

I chose to have medical management and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone, read my post on medical miscarriage and you will get what i mean! i think i'll be going for a d/c if it ever happens again. its not a nice thing to go through at all and everything that has happened to me in hospital bleeding-wise sounds just like u! i spet 2 hours stuck on the toilet having a bed pan switched all the time which was full of blood just so the nurses could check it and in the end i didn't pass anything other than blood clots! i hope you havent been in too much pain and hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel just soon xxx

Mimi, I know what you mean about being so tired of the bleeding. How can you try to move on after a miscarriage when the process doesn't end? My doctor said it's normal to have bleeding on and off for a month or so but to call if I notice any tissue. She also did an U/S 2 weeks after the miscarriage and said my endometrial lining is thin so that's good.
I took Cytotec for my miscarriage because nothing was happening on its own and I wanted to get it over with. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since then and I'm still somewhere between bleeding and spotting. It's been fairly consistent, nothing back and forth. I'm giving it a few more days and then I'll call my OB again. I thought 2 weeks would be long, now I wish that's all it would have been.
